Distance Covered:

Rigged 5m at Shoreham and sailed 4-5pm, had some decent jumps, some good blasting and a few keen rides, but most evident was the huge wind shadow on the inside. Yes, you could get on the front of a gust to get out with rocket launched airtime, but coming in, more often than not you were left gutless on the face of a wave. The wind had swung to the west and that favours the more west facing hove. Snap decision was made to de-rig and drive round the coast...

20 mins later planing out into frothing Hove. Rigged the bigger 5.5m and it was very sweet. Breaking waves all the way out, you had to hop over 6 or 7 lines of whitewater before you got into the cleaner stuff. Best rides were right out the back, had some nice S-turns on big swell, up to head high stuff. Quite peaky, so not the full down the line effect, that comes at the higher tide, but you could find a lump and work it up and down wind. Most satisfactory. Stay with the wave and there was a reform on the inside for a few downwind power carves. Finished at 6:30pm.
